Denpasar Engages 200 Children, Including Those with Disabilities, in Competitions to Promote Child-Friendly City

A total of 200 children in Denpasar participated in various competitions as part of National Children’s Day celebrations at the Dharma Negara Alaya (DNA) building in Lumintang, North Denpasar, on Thursday (23/7/2026). The participants, ranging from kindergarten to junior high school level, included children with disabilities. The event was part of the city’s efforts to realise its vision as a child-friendly and liveable city.

Ade Putri, Head of the Child Rights Fulfilment Division at Denpasar’s Office of Women’s Empowerment, Child Protection, and Family Planning (PPPAKB), stated that the competitions included colouring, writing Balinese script, creativity with used goods, and traditional storytelling (mesatua). She noted that the creativity competition using recycled materials specifically involved children with disabilities from foundations collaborating with the Denpasar Social Services.

Ade Putri explained that the National Children’s Day activities were designed to fulfil children’s rights. Beyond serving as a platform to showcase creativity, the competitions encouraged children to interact and develop their personal skills. ‘They also have a space to express their talents to foster self-confidence,’ she said. She expressed hope that this annual event would support the realisation of Denpasar as a city that is friendly and liveable for children. She also urged parents and the wider community to jointly provide protection for children during their developmental years and to ensure they have public spaces to display their talents.
