Denpasar District Court Sentences Russian National to 8 Months and 15 Days for Narcotics Case
The panel of judges at the Denpasar District Court has sentenced Russian national Kseniia Varlamova, 33, to eight months and 15 days in prison for failing to report a narcotics crime committed by her associate, Nirul Rashim Abdoelrazak (a separate case).
The presiding judge, Iman Luqmanul Hakim, stated during the hearing on Thursday that the defendant was proven legally and convincingly guilty of failing to report narcotics criminal activity, as stipulated under Article 111 in conjunction with Article 131 of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.
“We sentence the defendant, Kseniia Varlamova, to eight months and 15 days of imprisonment,” the panel of judges declared. The court determined that the defendant failed to notify the authorities upon discovering the hydroponic cannabis cultivation practices carried out by her partner, Nirul Rashim Abdoelrazak.
The sentence is 15 days heavier than the eight-month prison term previously sought by Public Prosecutor I Made Lovi Pusnawan. Upon hearing the verdict, the defendant stated she accepted the court’s decision, while the prosecution indicated they are still considering further legal steps.
During the investigation, authorities seized various pieces of evidence, including dried cannabis, cannabis seeds, hydroponic growing media, fertiliser, lighting equipment, blowers, humidifiers, temperature gauges, and electrical installations. Officers also confiscated numerous cannabis plants grown in pots and polybags of various sizes, as well as dozens of cannabis seedlings stored in plastic containers.
In addition to the narcotics and hydroponic equipment, two mobile phones belonging to Kseniia Varlamova and Nirul Rashim Abdoelrazak were also seized. The judges noted that all evidence was utilised in a separate case involving the defendant Nirul Rashim Abdoelrazak.
The defendant was previously apprehended by personnel from the Bali Regional Police Narcotics Directorate during a raid on a two-storey house on Jalan Bina Kusuma IV, Denpasar Utara, on Wednesday (1/10/2025). During the raid, police arrested the defendant alongside her associate and discovered 14 cannabis trees along with dozens of cannabis seedlings being grown via hydroponic methods.
