Denpasar City Council Ready to Escort Proposal for Additional State Junior High Schools to Koster
Chairman of the Denpasar City Council, I Gusti Ngurah Gede, supports the steps taken by the Denpasar City Education, Youth, and Sports Office (Disdikpora) to add state junior high schools (SMPN) and additional classrooms to accommodate more students in Denpasar.
This matter was discussed in a meeting at the Denpasar City Council, attended by the Head of the Education and Sports Office (Kadisdikpora) Anak Agung Gede Wiratama, on Tuesday (5/5/2026). According to Ngurah Gede, the number of junior high schools in Denpasar, as Bali’s capital, is still insufficient.
Ngurah Gede is ready to escort the proposal to Bali Governor Wayan Koster for prompt realisation. “I am ready to escort it; this is our spirit in Denpasar City. So proceed with it, do not let it be neglected while student admissions are limited, whereas land for building rooms is still available,” stated Ngurah Gede.
“Later, we will meet the Governor together, and we will request to discuss the construction of schools in Denpasar,” he added.
Meanwhile, Kadisdikpora Wiratama revealed that there are several areas in Denpasar without state junior high schools. “They are in Sanur Kauh, Pemecutan Kelod, Renon as well. We have been searching, but none exist,” stated Gede Wiratama.
Chairman of Commission IV of the Denpasar City Council, I Wayan Duaja, agreed with the statement. According to him, several junior high schools still have the potential for additional classrooms.
“SMPN 14 has empty land; add rooms there, then SMP 13 in Padangsambian Kelod, so that rooms are added soon to avoid this (student overcrowding),” he explained.
