Denny's Camp: Gibran Cannot Run in Future Presidential Elections Unless via 'Package C' Equivalence
Legal counsel for Denny Indrayana and others, Bambang Widjojanto, has stated that Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka can no longer run in the next presidential election. This claim follows a Constitutional Court decision which found no documents proving that Gibran possesses a certificate or diploma as evidence of completing an overseas education equivalent to high school level.
According to Bambang, Gibrability to run in the next presidential election would only be possible if he participates in the ‘Package C’ equivalency programme. “Today, Gibran is not only facing a flaw, but he can no longer nominate himself as a candidate for the next presidency. If he wishes to participate via Package C equivalence, perhaps he can, but the disgraceful act of deceiving these requirements means he is, in truth, morally flawed,” Bambang stated at the Constitutional Court on Tuesday night.
Bambang assessed that the Constitutional Court’s ruling proves Gibran lacks the necessary requirements to serve as a candidate in the 2024 Presidential Election. He further asserted that Gibran has engaged in disgraceful conduct.
“Such actions are clearly disgraceful. Under Article 7A, a person who commits a disgraceful act—even if they have been confirmed as Vice President—is subject to the fact that such misconduct has been proven through the Constitutional Court process,” he said.
He added that with the proof of such misconduct, the grounds for impeachment have become open. “And as my colleague suggested earlier, resigning would be far more honourable,” he remarked.
During the ruling session tonight, the Constitutional Court decided that the lawsuit challenging the validity of Vice President Gibran’s educational requirements during the 2024 Presidential Election nomination could not be accepted. The decision was read during the session for case number 01/PHPU.PRES-XXIV/2026 regarding the Dispute of the 2024 Presidential and Vice-Presidential Election Results, held in the Constitutional Court’s plenary courtroom in Jakarta on Tuesday night.
“In the exception: 1. Granting the respondent’s exception insofar as it relates to legal standing; 2. Rejecting the exceptions of the respondent and related parties for all other matters,” stated the verdict read by Constitutional Court Chief Justice Suhartoyo, presiding over the session which commenced at 8:00 PM WIB.
