Denmark research scandal: LPDP alumni, not lecturers, suspected of fabricating research
The public was alarmed by allegations of fabricated and falsified research by several Indonesian participants at the 2026 International Society of Pneumonia and Pneumococcal Diseases (ISPPD) conference held in Copenhagen, Denmark. For instance, between 17 and 21 May 2026, suspicion fell on a woman presenting her research at the ISPPD forum. The suspicion arose after the woman repeatedly altered her attire during the presentation. The suspects allegedly committed identity fraud during presentations. It was reported that the research locations spanned various parts of the world, including the Andes Mountains (Peru), Ethiopia and South Sudan, Guatemala, Lebanon and Jordan, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Nepal, northern India, Kenya, and Malawi, which is suspicious. This is because the entire research team consisted solely of Indonesians with no local collaborators from the countries in question. The scheme is believed to have been orchestrated to secure travel grants, enabling the suspects to travel overseas at no cost.
