Dengung Landfill in Lebak Catches Fire, Suspected from Grass Burning
The Dengung Final Processing Site (TPA) in Lebak Regency, Banten, caught fire on Thursday (30/7/2026) afternoon. The blaze is suspected to have originated from residents burning wild grass near the facility. The Banten Provincial Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported that Lebak firefighting officers received a report from a member of the public who saw flames engulfing rubbish at the Dengung TPA. Upon arrival, firefighters immediately began extinguishing the burning landfill. According to BPBD Banten Head Lutfi Mujahidin, the incident occurred because someone was burning wild grass. Due to dry weather and strong winds, the fire spread to the waste piles. The fire was successfully extinguished shortly afterwards, and the situation is now safe. The Banten BPBD has urged residents not to burn rubbish or grass during the dry season, as dry conditions and strong winds can easily cause fires to grow and spread.
