Dengue kills three in Madura

SUMENEP, Madura: Three people have died and 18 others have
been rushed to hospital in a dengue fever outbreak in two
villages in this regency, Antara reported yesterday.

The disease first hit the villages of Jepun Timur and
Sarpereng a month ago.

A local health officer confirmed that the fever has hardly
been treated due to the lateness of the report. He said that the
report was late because most patients were sent to the
state-owned hospital at Pamekasan, 60 km west of here.

"The hospital is reputed to be cleaner and has better services
than the local one," the Jepun Timur village head said. (16)
