Dengue hits Madura, E. Timor

JAKARTA: Four people have died and dozens hospitalized from dengue fever on Madura and East Timor, a press report said yesterday.

On the island of Madura, dengue fever has broken out in the Bangkalan regency, where at least two children, a kindergarten and an elementary school student, have died.

Antara quoted an official at the Bangkalan hospital as saying that almost all of those that have been admitted to the hospital are children under 10.

In the East Timor capital of Dili, dengue fever has also claimed two lives and 21 have been hospitalized, according to the chief of the city's health office, Rustam S. Pakaya.

"Now only four people are receiving medication at Dili hospital," he said. (pan)
