Dengue cases rise in Yogyakarta

YOGYAKARTA: Dengue has been more fatal in the Yogyakarta area this year than in 1997, with 76 deaths compared to 36, Antara said on Monday.

Between January and September, 3,332 were treated for the disease against 953 in the corresponding period of 1997, Muchamad Harsono, the head of Yogyakarta's Health Office, said.

Poor sanitation is one of the main causes for the massive outbreaks of dengue, Harsono said. (01)
