Dengue Cases Fall in the Thousand Islands
Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Thousand Islands Regency Health Sub-Department recorded a decline in dengue fever cases in the area compared with the same period last year.
“From 1 January to 30 September 2026, there were eight dengue cases, down from 25 in the same period in 2025,” said Ghamal Ahmad Permana, head of the Thousand Islands Regency Health Sub-Department, in Jakarta on Friday.
He said prevention efforts include regularly eradicating mosquito breeding sites by draining water containers, keeping them tightly covered and recycling used items.
Other measures include planting mosquito-repellent plants, checking places used to store water, cleaning the environment together and repairing drainage gutters, among other activities.
“These 3M Plus actions are carried out regularly in residential areas twice a week,” Ghamal said. The 3M measures involve draining, covering and recycling, alongside additional prevention steps.
The health sub-department also provides education to community health centres, larva-monitoring volunteers and residents on dengue prevention and treatment.
“We involve the community in preventing the spread of this mosquito-borne disease. Larva-monitoring volunteers also speak directly with residents so they understand how dengue spreads,” Ghamal said.
The office also involves residents in clearing mosquito breeding sites around their homes through the ‘One House, One Larva Monitor’ initiative, and urges them to keep water containers covered to prevent mosquitoes from breeding.
Ghamal said this was particularly important because island residents commonly collect rainwater in storage containers.
“We also urge people whose family members have dengue symptoms to go to a healthcare facility promptly and not delay treatment,” Ghamal said.
