DEN: Energy Transition as a Strategy for National Independence
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Saleh Abdurrahman, a member of the National Energy Council (DEN), stated that energy transition is a strategic necessity to strengthen national independence, ensuring Indonesia is not exposed to external volatility.
“In the midst of global energy price volatility, strengthening new and renewable energy (EBT) is key to making Indonesia increasingly independent and resilient in facing global pressures,” Saleh said in his official statement received in Jakarta on Monday.
Saleh views energy transition not merely as a global trend, but as a strategic requirement to reinforce national independence.
According to him, accelerating the development of New and Renewable Energy (EBT) as mandated by Government Regulation No. 40 of 2025 on National Energy Policy is an important step to prevent Indonesia from continuously being exposed to external volatility.
From an operational perspective, PT Pertamina Patra Niaga stated that it continues to strengthen anticipatory measures.
Marketing Director Eko Ricky Susanto mentioned that the global market is still overshadowed by concerns over potential supply disruptions.
In response, Pertamina is diversifying import sources, strengthening long-term contracts, optimising domestic refinery capacities, and tightening subsidy distribution to ensure stocks of fuel oil (BBM) and LPG remain stable and targeted appropriately.
The Directorate General of Oil and Gas (Ditjen Migas) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has implemented several comprehensive mitigation steps following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz due to tensions in the Middle East, which is a crucial route for an average of 20 percent of Indonesia’s crude oil supply.
“Currently, the government’s mitigation measures include diversifying energy imports, optimising domestic and biofuel supplies, improving refinery performance, strengthening bilateral cooperation, and policies for efficient fuel or LPG consumption,” said the Director General of Oil and Gas (Dirjen Migas) Laode Sulaeman.
