Tanjungpandan (ANTARA) - National Energy Council (DEN) member Sripeni Inten Cahyani expressed her highest appreciation to PT PLN (Persero) for building the Green Energy Ecosystem Technopark (GEET) on Rengit Island, Pegantungan Village, Belitung, Bangka Belitung Islands.

“We appreciate the commitment and tangible achievements of PT PLN (Persero) in research, innovation, and the development of low-carbon electricity technology to realise energy resilience on small and isolated islands,” said Sripeni Inten Cahyani in Tanjungpandan on Saturday following the inauguration of the Green Energy Ecosystem Technopark on Rengit Island.

She explained that the Green Energy Ecosystem (GEET) on Rengit Island, Belitung, is the only green energy ecosystem in Indonesia based on local potential.

“PLN Persero’s achievement is extraordinary. I am very proud to see tangible evidence of research, innovation, and technology development being carried out continuously to solve national issues, particularly in realising national energy resilience starting from archipelagic regions to isolated islands,” she said.

Sripeni assessed that the launch of the Green Energy Ecosystem Technopark represents a milestone or important historical marker in the national energy transition map.

She expressed hope that this environmentally friendly innovation can be widely adopted in other remote areas without having to wait long, so that its impact can be directly felt by the wider community.

According to Sripeni, the National Energy Council fully supports every step of research, innovation, and utilisation of low-carbon technology developed by PLN.

“Indonesia’s geographical characteristics, which are dominated by archipelagic and maritime areas, require a special approach based on local potential,” she said.

Therefore, DEN strongly encourages research and innovation in the development of marine energy, whether from ocean currents, tidal waves, or temperature differences, to realise national energy resilience.

“National energy resilience will never be achieved without realising energy independence in the regions, especially at crucial points such as outermost islands and isolated areas,” she said.

The Indonesian government has set a target for the National Energy Resilience Index of 8.36 by the end of 2029, which falls into the “very resilient” category.

Currently, she said, Indonesia’s Energy Resilience Index stands at 7 with a “resilient” rating.

Sripeni emphasised that the leap from a scale of 7 to 8.37 is a major challenge that requires hard work and cross-sector collaboration.

Previously, PLN Research and Development, PLN Dwipantara Generation Unit, Bangka Belitung Regional Unit, together with the Governor of the Bangka Belitung Islands, inaugurated the Green Energy Ecosystem Technopark (GEET) on Rengit Island, Pegantungan Village, Badau District, Belitung Regency, on Saturday.

The Green Ecosystem Technopark is a clean energy system innovation developed by PLN Research and Development that combines solar power (PV), battery energy storage systems (BESS), green hydrogen, and diesel power plants (PLTD).

The development project by PLN Research and Development in collaboration with universities successfully increased the island’s electricity supply from 12 hours to a full 24 hours.

Director of Technology, Engineering, and Sustainability of PT PLN (Persero), Edwin Nugraha, previously explained that electricity on Rengit Island was supported by diesel power supply. Its two generators have a capacity of 100 kW with a peak load of only 12 kWh.

Due to the high cost of diesel generation, operations were limited to 12 hours with a capacity of 70 kWh, but thanks to the presence of green energy (GEET), the capacity has risen above 74 kWh.
