Demonstrations Planned Across Central Jakarta Today, 1,069 Personnel Deployed
A total of 1,069 joint personnel have been deployed to secure protest actions at several points in Central Jakarta today. Demonstrators are scheduled to rally on Jalan Gambir and Jalan MH Thamrin.
The Head of Public Relations for the Central Jakarta Metro Police, Iptu Erlyn Sumantri, stated that the action is being organised by the Indonesian Islamic Student Activist Movement and several other mass elements. Police from the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Central Jakarta Metro Police, and sector police stations have been placed on standby.
“Security for the demonstration by the Indonesian Islamic Student Activist Movement and several mass elements in the Gambir area is planned for 10.00 WIB,” Erlyn said in a written statement.
Furthermore, the second and third demonstrations will be held by the Global Indonesia Federation of Trade Unions in front of the Japanese Embassy at 10.00 WIB and in front of the German Embassy at 11.00 WIB on Jalan MH Thamrin.
Meanwhile, traffic management at the demonstration sites will be implemented situationally, taking into account the number of demonstrators on the ground. The public has also been urged to avoid the areas around the demonstration locations to anticipate traffic congestion.
