Demonstrations in Bandung Proceed Peacefully, West Java Police Chief: Anticipating Infiltration by Provocateurs

West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan stated that student demonstrations held since Monday (15/6/2026) and Wednesday (17/6/2026) proceeded peacefully and smoothly. He said his party is also continuously anticipating the actions so they are not infiltrated by provocateurs. He said joint officers from the Indonesian National Police and the Indonesian National Armed Forces provided security and accompaniment for the student demonstrations. His party is anticipating infiltration by provocateurs and safeguarding all protest participants. “We, from the Bandung City Police, then from the District Military Command, are providing services to the students so they are safe, not infiltrated by provocateurs, and also comfortable because we are protecting all of them,” he said on Wednesday (17/6/2026) evening. He hopes that the peaceful student demonstrations can be maintained for the conduciveness of West Java. His party, together with other agencies, will continue to guard and secure any further student demonstrations. “Please use your democratic rights properly, in accordance with the provisions. Please express your aspirations, but conduciveness must be maintained. Because we can live in progress and peace if conduciveness exists,” he said. He confirmed that the situation in West Java is currently relatively safe and will remain so going forward. The West Java Police Chief said the participation of the mass media has contributed to maintaining conduciveness in West Java. “God willing (it will be safe), hopefully. This is also thanks to the media. Thank you to all media friends who have accompanied us and conveyed constructive matters, of course, in accordance with the facts,” he said. Previously, student demonstrations were carried out by the All-Indonesia Student Executive Board of West Java, the ITB Student Family, Unpas students, Unjani students, and others.
