Demonstrations and Traffic Diversions Force Transjakarta to Suspend Multiple Routes

A series of demonstrations across several points in Central Jakarta on Friday (19/6/2026) directly impacted public transport services. Road closures in the Medan Merdeka Selatan area and around the DPR/MPR building caused a number of TransJakarta routes to be diverted, while others were forced to temporarily cease operations. Based on monitoring of official posts from the X account @PT_Transjakarta, service disruptions began around midday as mass actions took place in the Monas and DPR/MPR areas. In the Medan Merdeka Selatan area, TransJakarta announced that route 5C Cililitan-Juanda was diverted due to the road closure. ‘Temporarily, the Juanda direction is not serving the Balai Kota Bus Stop,’ TransJakarta stated. Shortly after, route 2A Rawa Buaya-Pulo Gadung was also diverted, with the operator stating the service was not serving the Balai Kota Bus Stop in both directions. A similar diversion occurred on route 7F Kampung Rambutan-Juanda, where the Juanda direction temporarily skipped the Balai Kota Bus Stop. Meanwhile, a different situation unfolded around the DPR/MPR complex. Traffic congestion and the closure of several road sections affected even more TransJakarta services. In a post at 15:36 WIB, TransJakarta announced that Corridor 9 and route 9A were diverted. ‘Corridor 9 and Route 9A are experiencing route diversions due to traffic congestion around the DPR/MPR Building. Temporarily, the Pluit direction is via the inner-city toll road and is not serving the Gerbang Pemuda and Petamburan Bus Stops,’ TransJakarta wrote. The impact of the diversion was felt by passengers. One TransJakarta user stated that passengers bound for the Gerbang Pemuda and Petamburan stops could not alight because the buses were not passing through those points. ‘Everyone getting off at Petamburan and Gerbang Pemuda couldn’t get off. That’s the Corridor 9 and 9A route,’ said TransJakarta passenger Gelson. Subsequently, route 10H Tanjung Priok-Bundaran Senayan was also diverted, with the Tanjung Priok direction not serving the Gerbang Pemuda and Petamburan stops. Route SH2 Blok M-Soekarno Hatta Airport was also affected, with the airport direction not serving the DPR/MPR 1 and Slipi Petamburan bus stops. Service diversions then expanded to several other routes. Based on official posts at 15:55 WIB, routes S61 Blok M-Alam Sutera, T31 Blok M-PIK, 3F Kalideres-Senayan Bank Jakarta, and 1W Blok M-Ancol were also diverted due to road closures around the DPR/MPR Building. TransJakarta stated that the directions towards Alam Sutera, PIK, Senayan Bank Jakarta, and Ancol were temporarily not serving the Gerbang Pemuda and Petamburan Bus Stops. In addition to diversions, some services were temporarily suspended. In a post at 15:47 WIB, TransJakarta announced that routes 1B and 1F were temporarily not serving customers. ‘Routes 1B and 1F are temporarily not operating to serve customers due to road closures around the DPR/MPR Building,’ TransJakarta wrote. Then at 15:59 WIB, TransJakarta announced the temporary suspension of route 8N Kebayoran-Petamburan via Asia Afrika. Meanwhile, the X account @TMCPoldaMetro reported that a demonstration was taking place in the Silang Selatan Monas area, opposite the Danareksa Building. As a result of the mass activity, traffic flow from Gambir towards Patung Kuda was temporarily diverted. A total of 4,263 joint personnel were deployed to secure the demonstrations across various points in Central Jakarta. The Central Jakarta Metro Police public relations head stated that the personnel came from Polda Metro Jaya, Central Jakarta Metro Police, and sector police ranks. According to notifications received by the police, actions were held by the National Board of Tani Merdeka Indonesia at Silang Selatan Monas from 09:00 WIB, and by Trisakti University student representatives in front of the DPR/MPR RI Building from 10:00 WIB. Other actions were held by the Indonesian Economics Student Senate Association at the HI Roundabout at 11:00 WIB, while the Nusantara Student and Youth Coalition staged demonstrations at Tugu Tani and the Ministry of Finance from 13:00 WIB. Police urged all participants to express their aspirations in an orderly and peaceful manner.
