Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has emphasised that expressing aspirations through demonstrations is part of democratic life. Demonstrations are permitted as long as they are conducted according to procedure. However, he reminded that acts of vandalism and anarchic actions cannot be justified.

“As a democratic country, demonstrations are permitted and allowed as long as they follow procedures and so on. But if they then engage in vandalism, anarchic actions, and so on, certainly no member of society would provide support for that,” Pramono told reporters on Friday (28/8/2026).

Regarding the impact of damage caused by the demonstration, Pramono said the Jakarta provincial government has been monitoring the situation since the action began. He admitted to monitoring the situation on the ground together with elements of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda). “I received a report; coincidentally last night we monitored together with the Regional Military Commander, the Regional Police Chief, and the Head of the State Intelligence Agency,” Pramono said.

In addition, Pramono coordinated with the regional apparatus organisations (OPD) of the Jakarta provincial government responsible for handling the impact of the action.

According to Pramono, after the action ended around 00.30 to 01.30 WIB on Friday, Jakarta provincial government personnel were immediately deployed to carry out cleaning at a number of affected locations.
