Demonstration: Public advised to avoid Monas and Sudirman areas
The Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) has urged the public to avoid several areas potentially affected by a planned demonstration, particularly the DPR/MPR building, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Jalan M.H. Thamrin, and the Monas area in Central Jakarta.
In addition to these locations, the public is also advised to anticipate points that could become gathering spots for demonstrators, including the Proclamation Monument, the Jakarta Legal Aid Institute (LBH) on Jalan Diponegoro, and the front of SMPN 8 on Jalan Pegangsaan Barat.
Head of the Jakarta Provincial Transportation Agency, Budi Awaluddin, said in an official statement on Tuesday that members of the public planning to pass through these areas should adjust their travel times and consider alternative routes.
“Our officers are on standby to assist with traffic management and maintain public mobility,” Budi said.
He explained that traffic engineering would be carried out situationally, taking into account conditions and the movement of crowds on the ground.
The Jakarta Transportation Agency has also deployed 60 officers to anticipate traffic congestion resulting from the demonstration.
Budi said the agency would continue to monitor developments and coordinate with the police and other relevant parties in managing traffic.
The public is urged to follow officers’ instructions, exercise caution while driving, and make use of public transport and alternative routes should traffic conditions change around the demonstration sites.
