Demonstration Disperses, Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan Towards Gambir Reopens
Masses from the Indonesian National Student Movement (GMNI) and Cipayung Jakarta Barat who staged a demonstration have dispersed on Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, Central Jakarta. Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan towards Gambir, which had been temporarily closed, has been reopened.
Monitoring at the location on Wednesday (24/6/2026) around 18.00 WIB showed the crowd dispersing on foot from the site. A command vehicle also subsequently left the demonstration location.
Police overseeing the protest then removed the barriers that had been installed during the demonstration. Public Facilities Maintenance Agency (PPSU) personnel, known as the orange troops, were also seen at the location helping to clean the road.
Vehicles were observed beginning to pass through Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan towards Gambir. Traffic flow was reported to be smooth.
Previously, the Chairman of the GMNI Jakarta Barat Branch Leadership Council, Ahmad Mixel Meyna Imtiyazi, stated there were several demands they conveyed. These included national economic recovery, evaluation of national strategic programmes, strengthening governance, and improving teacher welfare.
