Hundreds of protesters affiliated with the National Alliance Against Zionism (ANAZ) and the Palestine and Yemen Solidarity Committee (KOSPY) held a demonstration outside the US Embassy in Jakarta on Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan on Monday, 9 March 2026. The protesters demanded that the Indonesian Government immediately withdraw from its membership of the Board of Peace (BOP).

The action was a response to escalating conflict in the Middle East, following an attack that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader. The protesters argued that Indonesia’s involvement in the BOP bloc potentially undermines constitutional values and national sovereignty.

Zaid Ali, Media Officer for KOSPY, stated that the action demonstrated solidarity with nations that have become victims of aggression in the Middle East. “Indonesia must not become a tool of foreign interests operating under the guise of peace, yet actually damaging national sovereignty. We urge the government and legislature to immediately evaluate and sever ties with BOP,” said Zaid Ali in Jakarta on Monday, 13 March 2026.

In their position statement, ANAZ and KOSPY presented seven key demands. One central point was a strong condemnation of what they characterised as US and Israeli aggression against Iran. They described these actions as extrajudicial killing and state terrorism that violate international law.

“The death of Iran’s leader is not a defeat, but rather a proclamation of moral victory. We condemn this aggression as a serious violation of state sovereignty and humanitarian principles,” Zaid emphasised.

The protesters also highlighted what they viewed as double standards applied by Western nations in responding to human rights issues and international conflicts. In addition to Iran, they expressed solidarity with the people of Lebanon and Yemen, who have also been affected by attacks across the regions from Beirut to Sanaa.

Regarding domestic concerns, the protesters raised concerns about the Board of Peace (BOP) as a gateway for foreign interests in Indonesia. ANAZ and KOSPY urged transparency and firm action from the government to prevent Indonesia from becoming trapped in global geopolitical scenarios that disadvantage Indonesia’s position as a non-aligned nation.

The protesters also warned against false flag tactics or operations using specific symbols to discredit resistance movements in the Middle East.

The demonstration, conducted under strict police oversight, proceeded peacefully. Protesters stated they would continue to monitor the issue and apply public pressure on the government to adopt a more firm and independent diplomatic stance on the global stage.
