Demonstration at Bima DPMD Office Turns Chaotic, Students Nearly Come to Blows with Agency Head
A demonstration at the office of the Community and Village Empowerment Agency (DPMD) of Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), ended in chaos. A number of students nearly came to blows with the Head of the Bima Regency DPMD, Masykur, and several employees at the office.
The incident began when a group of students belonging to the Alliance of Students and Community Concerned for Sampungu Village, Soromandi District, arrived at the Bima Regency DPMD office on Monday (24/8/2026). They were scheduled to attend a meeting with the Head of Sampungu Village, facilitated by the DPMD, to discuss transparency in the use of village funds and the management of village-owned enterprises (BUMDes).
“Because the Sampungu Village Head did not attend the meeting invitation, the students lodged a protest,” said a staff member of the Bima Regency DPMD to detikBali on Monday (24/8/2026).
According to him, the students did not accept the absence of the Sampungu Village Head from the meeting. They then entered the room while shouting loudly as employees were working. He even said that some of the students also damaged office facilities.
“They went straight into the room and damaged several office tables and chairs,” he said.
Upon hearing the commotion, the Head of the DPMD came out of his room and met the students. Student representatives were also said to have interrupted the conversation, leading to an argument and shoving.
The action coordinator, Indrayana, alleged that the chaos occurred because of the attitude and remarks of the DPMD Head. According to him, the aspirations conveyed by the protesters were not properly heeded.
“Our demand to have the Sampungu Village Head present was not accommodated by the DPMD. We are only demanding transparency of village funds and asking the DPMD to provide guidance to the Sampungu Village Head,” said Indrayana.
Indrayana explained that the protesters had no intention of causing chaos at the DPMD office. However, he said, the response of the DPMD Head actually aggravated the situation.
“We want a concrete solution. But the Head responded angrily and even threatened to report the students to the police,” he added.
The Head of the Bima Regency DPMD, Masykur, acknowledged that there was chaos at his office. He instead alleged that it was caused by the arrogant attitude of the students.
Masykur explained that his office had complied with the students’ wishes by issuing a mediation summons to the Sampungu Village Head on Friday (21/8). However, the Sampungu Village Head did not attend the mediation session scheduled for today.
“We at the DPMD have been working in accordance with our main duties and functions. However, the protesters could not be patient and instead blamed our performance. Everything takes time and process,” Masykur asserted.
