Demolition of one footbridge on Rasuna Said targeted for completion by October
The Jakarta Provincial Government is targeting the demolition of an old pedestrian bridge that went viral under the name ‘Love-Hate Relationship’ bridge in the Jalan HR Rasuna Said area to be completed by October 2026 at the latest.
‘The demolition will take place in September, and at the latest it will be finished in October,’ said Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung after visiting the pedestrian bridge in the Jalan HR Rasuna Said area, Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Sunday.
He said the demolition process must first go through asset administration stages because the bridge to be demolished is an asset belonging to the Jakarta Provincial Government.
According to him, the asset needs to be recorded and processed first through the Jakarta Regional Asset Management Agency before demolition work can be carried out.
‘First, for the demolition, because this is an asset of the Jakarta Provincial Government, the asset must of course be recorded first with the Regional Asset Management Agency, then we will immediately carry out the demolition,’ Pramono explained.
The Jakarta Provincial Government has previously carried out demolition work with a certain level of difficulty without causing significant traffic disruption.
‘The demolition will not disrupt traffic. We previously cut down the monorail, thank God, and traffic was not disrupted either,’ said Pramono.
Meanwhile, Head of the Jakarta Highways Department Heru Suwondo explained that once the asset administration process is complete, the next stage is the tender for the demolition work.
Heru assured that the physical demolition work will not take long.
The demolition of the pedestrian bridge can be completed within approximately two to three weeks after the tender process by the Regional Asset Management Agency is finished.
‘Later, after we submit it to the Regional Asset Management Agency, the agency will hold a tender. As for the demolition, I think it will not take very long, perhaps around two to three weeks,’ said Heru.
‘For this demolition, we are still communicating with the Regional Asset Management Agency. Later, it will go through a tender stage. Usually, demolition work is carried out at night,’ Heru revealed.
As is known, the reason for demolishing one of the old pedestrian bridges that went viral under the name ‘Love-Hate Relationship’ bridge in the Jalan HR Rasuna Said area is related to accessibility issues for people with disabilities.
He said that based on the results of a direct inspection at the location, one of the pedestrian bridges was deemed unfriendly to disabled groups because there is a height difference between the bridge access and the surrounding area.
According to him, this condition makes it difficult for people with disabilities to use the available crossing facility.
