Democrats View Anies-SBY Meeting During Eid as an Example of Mutual Forgiveness

Jakarta - A member of the Democrat Party’s Supreme Council, Syarief Hasan, views meetings between national figures during Eid al-Fitr as a good example for the public, particularly in terms of mutual forgiveness.

He expressed this in response to the meeting between former DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and Indonesia’s sixth President as well as Democrat Party Supreme Council Chairman Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), along with Democrat Party General Chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), during the halalbihalal occasion.

“The Eid al-Fitr moment is certainly good for mutual forgiveness, especially among national figures,” said Syarief Hasan to reporters on Wednesday (25/3/2026).

“It’s good as an example for the people that mutual forgiveness aligns with our religious teachings,” he added.

Sy arief emphasised that the meeting was purely for Lebaran greetings, without any specific political agenda.

“It’s just silaturahmi, nothing else,” stated the former Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly.

Anies’s spokesperson, Usamah Abdul Aziz, confirmed the meeting. He said that communication between Anies and the Democrat Party’s ranks has remained good all along.

“Yes, communication has been running well as usual,” Usamah remarked.

Based on gathered information, the meeting took place warmly in an open space with other guests.

It is known that relations between Anies and the Democrat Party had previously become strained following the political dynamics of the 2024 presidential election.

At that time, the Democrat Party, along with the NasDem Party and the Prosperous Justice Party, were initially part of the Coalition for Change for Unity (KPP), which had nominated the Anies-AHY duo.

Nevertheless, this year’s Eid al-Fitr moment serves as an opportunity to further strengthen silaturahmi among national political figures.
