Democrats Target Legislative Election Victory in 2029 Like 2009 General Election
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The General Secretary of the Democratic Party’s Central Executive Board, Herman Khaeron, has stressed the importance of party solidarity and internal strength to achieve political victory, targeting achievements similar to the 2009 general election (Pemilu).
Kompas.com notes that the Democratic Party garnered the highest number of votes in the 2009 Pemilu with 21,703,137 votes and 148 seats in the DPR.
Herman emphasised this during his speech at the V Regional Conference (Musda) of the Democratic Party in South Sumatra Province at the Aryaduta Hotel in Palembang on Thursday night (30/4/2026).
He explained that the Musda is an important momentum as part of the party’s five-year internal democracy process, particularly for electing the Provincial Regional Leadership Council (DPD) Chairman.
According to Herman, although this Musda has narrowed down to one name, namely Cik Ujang, the opportunity for other candidates to emerge remains open and will be further processed at the Central Executive Board (DPP) level.
“The final determination remains in the hands of the general chairman. It can be by acclamation if there’s one candidate; if more than one, the DPP will decide,” he clarified.
He referred to the 2009 Pemilu achievements as a reference for the party’s resurgence.
“To achieve victory, we must be solid and strong,” he continued.
Meanwhile, the resigning Chairman of the South Sumatra DPD of the Democratic Party, who is also the sole candidate for DPD Chairman, Cik Ujang, affirmed his commitment to increasing the acquisition of seats at all legislative levels in the upcoming elections.
“In the upcoming elections, we must increase the acquisition of seats in all regencies/cities, the South Sumatra Provincial DPRD, up to the central DPR,” said Cik Ujang.
On the same occasion, South Sumatra Governor Herman Deru appreciated Cik Ujang’s leadership.
He assessed Cik Ujang as a leader with a strong character and capable of building broad relations.
In addition, chairmen of Democratic Party District Executive Boards (DPC) throughout South Sumatra were present.
