Democrats State SBY-AHY Did Not Discuss Coalition with Anies, Confirm Coalition with Prabowo
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Democratic Party spokesperson Herzaky Mahendra has affirmed that the sixth President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) and Democratic Party General Chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) did not discuss a coalition with former 2024 presidential candidate Anies Baswedan during the halal bihalal event in Cikeas, West Java, last Saturday (21/3/2026).
Herzaky claimed that SBY and AHY did not engage in any special discussions with the people who attended the halal bihalal event at SBY’s residence.
“There were no special discussions with anyone during Lebaran in Cikeas last time. There’s no need to interpret it or take it anywhere. Especially directing it towards future coalition plans or election matters. That’s thinking too far ahead,” Herzaky told Kompas.com on Thursday (26/3/2026).
The Democrats are committed to carrying out the mandate entrusted by Prabowo in the Merah Putih Cabinet.
“The current coalition with Mr Prabowo, as well as future coalition plans. So, don’t speculate in any direction,” he added.
Previously, it was reported that Anies Baswedan still maintains good relations with SBY and AHY.
However, Anies’s relationship with the Democratic Party was once strained due to his decision in the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres) to run alongside National Awakening Party (PKB) General Chairman Muhaimin Iskandar.
“Well, there might have been some misunderstanding at one point, but the good relations continue,” said Usamah Abdul Aziz, when contacted by Kompas.com on Tuesday night (24/6/2026).
