Democrats in Cianjur Prepare for 2029 Legislative Election, Target 10 Seats

The Democratic Party in Cianjur Regency, West Java, has begun preparations for the 2029 Legislative Election (Pileg). The party, which uses the star symbol, has set a target of winning 10 parliamentary seats. Chairperson of the Cianjur Democratic Party branch, Hj Lilis Boy, stated that the target of 10 seats is not unrealistic, given that the party remains a significant political force. “Our target is 10 seats. Six seats in the district parliament, then reclaiming seats in the national parliament. If possible, two seats in the national parliament and two in the West Java provincial parliament,” she said during a political education event at Bale Rancage Building on Tuesday. The Democratic Party has previously enjoyed success in Cianjur, winning legislative elections and placing its cadre as the Regent of Cianjur. In the 2024 legislative election, the party secured five seats in the Cianjur Regency parliament. Lilis affirmed the party will continue to strengthen its internal machinery down to the grassroots level. “God willing, we will keep working hard, including recruiting the best cadres. The key is solidarity. No divisions. We must be united to grow the party going forward. We want to provide the best for the people of Cianjur Regency,” she concluded. Meanwhile, Ahmad Bajuri, Head of the Organisation, Cadreisation, and Membership Development Agency for the West Java Democratic Party, added that political education is a routine party agenda aimed at enhancing cadre capacity. “So that cadres have insight and know how to communicate with various elements of society. This insight relates to ideological, psychological, sociological, and pragmatic perspectives. These four aspects are what we emphasise to cadres,” he said. He expressed high hopes that in the 2029 legislative election, the Cianjur Democratic Party branch can once again show its strength, noting that winning five district parliament seats provides a solid foundation. “First, our target is how to win the election. Then, how we can ensure our cadres are elected to executive positions in the regional elections,” he stressed.
