Democrat Reveals Coalition Secretaries-General Talks: Must Be One Idea

Secretary-General of the Democratic Party, Herman Khaeron, revealed details of a meeting of secretaries-general from the Red and White Coalition (Koalisi Merah Putih). Herman Khaeron stated that the meeting, held at the residence of Gerindra Secretary-General Sugiono, was intended to strengthen ties. “Firstly, the meeting was to strengthen ties because we have not met for a long time. The long gap occurred because Mr Prabowo is focused on the national economic situation and other matters,” Herman Khaeron said at the parliament complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday (14/8/2026). Herman stated that future political agendas must be united under one idea and one concept. He noted that the meeting on Thursday (13/8) discussed a number of national issues. “Moving forward, there are many political agendas that must be truly united. One line, one idea, one concept, although there may be many proposals and opinions,” Herman said. “This is what we tried to elevate last night into a collective effort to address various issues together in the future,” he added. Herman mentioned that many political agendas need to be addressed by the coalition parties. He assessed that these concepts must be aligned so that the interests of all parties are accommodated. “As political entities, when we meet, there are certainly many political agendas to discuss. One of them, of course, is the future. Last night we did not discuss anything substantive yet. But going forward, there are many political agendas, such as the Election Law, the Regional Election Law, and possibly the Political Party Law,” Herman said. “Then there are other laws related to their derivatives, such as the recruitment of election organisers and so on. This must be aligned so that the interests of all political parties are well accommodated,” he added. The meeting of secretaries-general was held on Thursday evening (13/8). Gerindra Party Secretary-General Sugiono hosted the meeting. Sugiono said the meeting took place in a friendly dinner atmosphere. The gathering was described as a space for national togetherness and a reflection on the nearly two-year journey of President Prabowo Subianto’s administration. Sugiono stated that the meeting was a forum for strengthening communication and ties among coalition political parties ahead of the Republic of Indonesia’s Independence Day commemoration. “This meeting was a gathering that we had not had the chance to hold before. We gathered in a family atmosphere to welcome the Republic of Indonesia’s Independence Day anniversary while reflecting on the coalition’s journey during nearly two years of President Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s administration,” Sugiono said in a statement to journalists. The secretaries-general in attendance came from Gerindra Party, Golkar Party, National Awakening Party (PKB), Democratic Party, National Mandate Party (PAN), Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), NasDem Party, Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), Crescent Star Party (PBB), Gelora Party, Garuda Party, and the Just and Prosperous People’s Party (Prima). According to Sugiono, the presence of the secretaries-general from the Forward Indonesia Coalition (Koalisi Indonesia Maju) was a form of ongoing political communication in supporting the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto and the Red and White Cabinet.
