Democrat Party Supports Prabowo's Potential Cabinet Reshuffle: Annual Evaluation is Crucial
The Secretary-General of the Democratic Party, Herman Khaeron, has responded to President Prabowo Subianto’s comments regarding the possibility of a cabinet reshuffle approaching the second year of his administration. Herman Khaeron stated that annual evaluations are vital to conduct.
“A cabinet reshuffle is the President’s prerogative, and I believe the President possesses a careful assessment of his ministers’ performance,” said Herman Khaeron on Monday (21/09/2026).
Herman noted that annual evaluations are important to measure the extent of the success of programmes implemented by ministers. He added that public response to the performance of the President’s aides over the past two years will certainly be a key consideration.
“Annual evaluation is essential to measure how far the success of programmes run by ministers has gone, and what needs to be strengthened moving forward,” Herman Khaeron stated.
“In truth, with today’s openness of information and social media, access to assess the success of ministers can be seen through public response, and certainly, the government has institutions that provide empirical data regarding the parameters of ministerial performance success,” he added.
The Democratic Party leaves all possibilities regarding cabinet changes to Prabowo, reiterating that a reshuffle is the President’s prerogative.
“Therefore, we leave the full authority to evaluate and conduct a reshuffle to the President,” he said.
Prabowo’s Statement
Prabowo does not rule out the possibility of a cabinet reshuffle at the two-year mark of his administration. Prabowo believes that cabinet members should have had sufficient time to prove their performance.
This was conveyed by Prabowo during an interview on the ‘Prabwo Menjawab’ programme on Wednesday (16/09), while responding to questions ahead of his second year in office. Prabowo was asked about his level of satisfaction with his ministers’ performance and the possibility of restructuring the cabinet.
“So, it’s like this: if I evaluate continuously and up to now objectively, I must say that my team is working okay. However, I also tell my team, remember, just like a football team, there are starters, strikers, and substitutes. So, I am focusing first because Indonesia’s problems are so complex; we must focus on the fundamentals,” Prabowo replied, in response to a question from Metro TV Deputy Editor-in-Chief Rivana Pratiwi regarding a potential large-scale reshuffle.
Prabowo explained that there are several ministries that are not considered to be on the ‘front line’. He noted that these ministers are working according to their abilities and authority.
“So at this time, there are several ministries that are, so to speak, not on the front line, but they understand. And they work according to their own initiative,” said Prabowo.
Prabowo added that a cabinet reshuffle might be necessary to place the right people in the right positions, or if there are errors that require accountability.
“So, if there is a reshuffle later, I think it might be, among other things, for the promotion of people—we are always looking for ‘the right man in the right place’, for competence. And if someone is perhaps not suitable for that position, we must be able to replace them with the right person,” he said.
“Or if they themselves have problems, we cannot avoid that. For example, I didn’t know, then suddenly the KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission) comes to me and says, ‘Sir, this official is like this, like this’. Well, what can I do? ‘Do you have evidence? If you have evidence, please proceed’, I said. Then an incident occurs. If my Deputy Minister is involved, that is his responsibility,” he continued.
When asked again if the two-year mark represents a momentum for either replacement or evaluation, Prabowo replied, “I think it is something logical. Two years, so each person has had time to prove their ability and so on.”
