Democrat Party Holds Lunar New Year Celebration, AHY: A First in Party History

The Democrat Party held its 2026 Lunar New Year celebration today, described as the first such celebration in the party’s history.

“This is a special moment for the Democrat Party because this is the first time we have celebrated the Lunar New Year holiday by inviting various groups who are here with us today. Once again, Happy Lunar New Year,” said Democrat Party Chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) in his address at the Democrat Lunar New Year Celebration 2026 at Djakarta Theatre, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (18/2/2026).

“The theme we have chosen today is naturally in line with the national Lunar New Year theme: ‘Harmoni Nusantara, Together in Harmony, Stronger in Solidarity.’ This is a spirit that we must grow ever stronger in weaving togetherness among us in a beautiful harmony,” AHY said.

AHY then highlighted the celebration as a reflection of the Democrat Party’s image as a nationalist-religious party. He stated that all religions in Indonesia must be honoured equally.

“We are also fully aware that religious values, regardless of which faith we embrace, must be honoured equally,” he said.

AHY also described the celebration as a testimony to tolerance in Indonesia, noting that all major religious occasions in the country are celebrated.

“And today’s event serves as a testimony, a proof that Indonesia is diverse yet we truly respect one another, both in celebrating religious occasions and special days such as this Lunar New Year,” he said.
