Democrat Party Denies PDIP: No Incitement in AHY's Remarks, Rather a Call for Unity
Democrat Party Secretary-General Herman Khaeron has responded to a statement by PDIP Chairman DPP Deddy Sitorus, who had asked Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) not to incite regarding PDIP’s position outside the government. Herman Khaeron said there was no inciting statement from AHY.
“There is no sentence where Mas AHY incites; on the contrary, what was conveyed was an invitation to do good for the nation and state, and this was exemplified when the Democrat Party was also in a position as a balancing party,” Herman told reporters on Wednesday (24/6/2026).
Herman assessed that AHY’s statement prioritised the interests of the nation above partisan interests. He also highlighted Indonesia’s condition amidst global geopolitical issues.
“The view of prioritising national interests above partisan interests is, in my opinion, a noble view, at a time when our country is in a situation affected by global political and economic uncertainty,” said Herman.
“And of course, the call to unite and create a conducive country is a good thing for the nation and state,” continued this member of Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives.
Previously, Deddy Sitorus had sharply criticised Democrat Party Chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) regarding a statement asking PDIP to continue providing constructive criticism even though it is outside the government. Responding to this, Deddy asked AHY not to incite and to respect the political stance taken by PDIP.
Deddy initially spoke about the many accusations against PDIP of being the mastermind behind demonstrations, with parties questioning PDIP’s position inside or outside the government. Deddy brought up that PDIP had even been accused of being the mastermind of a demonstration in 2025.
This PDIP DPP chairman revealed that the same thing is happening again in 2026. He said that one PDIP cadre, Andi Widjajanto, has been accused of being the mastermind of a demonstration.
“Well, now it’s the same. Andi Widjajanto is being accused. Even a coordinating minister like AHY speaks, well, don’t incite,” he said.
“This once again proves that being outside the government always makes it easy to become a scapegoat,” he continued.
