Democrat Party: AHY Never Sought Assistance from Sony Sonjaya Regarding SPPG

The Democrat Party has spoken out regarding the issue of its closeness to former Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Sony Sonjaya. The Democrat Party emphasised that Chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) has no connection with Sony Sonjaya concerning SPPG or other BGN programmes. This was conveyed by the Head of the Democrat Party’s Strategic Communication Agency, Herzaky Mahendra Putra. He stressed that AHY does not know Sony Sonjaya. “The Chairman of the Democrat Party, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), does not know Mr. Sony Sonjaya. AHY has never met or communicated with Mr. Sony Sonjaya,” said Herzaky in his statement on Tuesday (9/6/2026). Herzaky also said that AHY has never proposed or requested assistance from Sony regarding the SPPG programme or other BGN programmes. He asserted that AHY has never had dealings with Sony. “AHY has never proposed, recommended, requested assistance, or asked for support from Mr. Sony Sonjaya regarding the SPPG programme or other matters, whether directly or indirectly,” he said. In addition, Herzaky also addressed reports that included the phrase ‘2 Colonels proposed by AHY’. Once again, he emphasised that this is an accusation not based on facts. “The posting in question did not explain who was meant by the phrase ‘AHY’ or who the ‘2 Colonels’ referred to. However, if the intended person is the Chairman of the Democrat Party, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, then the Democrat Party asserts that this association has no factual basis whatsoever,” he stated. “Therefore, the phrase ‘2 colonels proposed by AHY’, if it concerns Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, can be confirmed as slander and contains no truth at all,” he continued. Herzaky said the Democrat Party respects press freedom and supports professional journalistic work. However, he reminded all parties that any news concerning individuals must be based on verified facts.
