Demand for Car Rentals for Eid Exodus in Tanjung Priok Decreases, Rental Duration Shorter

JAKARTA - A car rental entrepreneur on Jalan Tongkol in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, Adi Supriyatna (40), claims that demand for car hires for the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah homecoming at his business has decreased. “This year, it seems a bit down; it’s still better than last year,” he said when met by Kompas.com at his rental location on Thursday (19/3/2026). Adi stated that the total number of car rental bookings he received for this Eid totals 18 units. According to him, the drop in demand is because many companies are providing short holiday periods, causing potential renters to hesitate on taking long-term rental packages. “Most companies have holidays that are too tight. They (potential renters) can’t speculate on long holidays,” he said. He explained that car rentals during the Eid homecoming period are generally offered for a duration of 10 days at a rate of around Rp7,500,000 for Toyota Avanza, Rush, and Daihatsu Terios vehicles. However, this year many renters are opting for shorter durations. “The minimum now is five days, seven days,” said Adi. Although experiencing a decline, the Eid moment remains the peak demand period for the car rental business. Adi estimates that the profits he gains during the Eid season will reach around Rp50 million. “It’s always in demand every year during Eid moments. Whether it’s new rentals or long-term (loyal) customers,” he said. He added that large-capacity family cars are still the primary choice for renters heading home for Eid. According to Adi, vehicles with three rows of seats are more popular because they can carry the entire family along with luggage. “Whereas small cars like the Brio only have capacity for four people, and not much luggage either. Mostly three-row seat vehicles,” he explained. Before being rented out for the homecoming, Adi ensures all vehicles are thoroughly inspected, from engine condition, brakes, tyres, to oil, to guarantee safety for long-distance travel.
