Delpedro, OC Kaligis, and Happy Salma Attend Nadiem Makarim's Verdict Hearing
Jakarta – Executive Director of the Lokataru Foundation, Delpedro Marhaen, and senior advocate Otto Cornelis (OC) Kaligis attended the verdict hearing for Nadiem Anwar Makarim at the Corruption Court in Central Jakarta District Court on Tuesday. They were seen in the courtroom alongside other public figures, including Happy Salma, Igor Saykoji, Teuku Zacky, and Riri Riza. While waiting for the proceedings to begin, Nadiem, wearing a long-sleeved blue batik shirt, chatted with Delpedro and OC. He also approached the other public figures to greet and embrace them.
Nadiem Makarim is a defendant in a case of alleged corruption involving the digitalisation of education programme, specifically the procurement of Chromebook laptops and Chrome Device Management (CDM) within the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology for the years 2019–2022. The former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology for the 2019–2024 period was previously sentenced to 18 years in prison, a fine of Rp1 billion, subsidiary to 190 days imprisonment, and a replacement payment of Rp5.67 trillion, subsidiary to 9 years imprisonment.
In this case, he was charged with corruption that caused state losses amounting to Rp2.18 trillion. The corruption was allegedly carried out through the procurement of information and communication technology-based learning facilities, namely Chromebook laptops and CDM, for the 2020, 2021, and 2022 fiscal years, which did not comply with procurement planning and principles. The founder of a technology company was charged with committing these acts together with three other defendants in separate trials, namely Ibrahim Arief, also known as Ibam, Mulyatsyah, and Sri Wahyuningsih, as well as Jurist Tan, who remains at large. In detail, the resulting state losses included Rp1.56 trillion related to the education digitalisation programme at the Ministry of Education and Culture, and 44.05 million US dollars, equivalent to Rp621.39 billion, due to the unnecessary and useless procurement of CDM for the programme. Through these actions, Nadiem allegedly received Rp809.59 billion from PT Aplikasi Karya Anak Bangsa (PT AKAB) via PT Gojek Indonesia. It was stated that the majority of PT AKAB’s funds originated from a Google investment worth 786.99 million US dollars.
