Delman drivers or handlers in Padalarang, West Bandung District (KBB) have responded positively to a policy announced by West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi, which offers compensation in exchange for ceasing operations during the 2026 Lebaran exodus and return period. The policy is considered effective in reducing traffic congestion.

Iyan Sopiansyah, 34 years old, a delman driver in Padalarang, reported that he has already received compensation from Dedi Mulyadi and is prepared to cease operations during the 2026 exodus period. He views this measure as support for the government and as a contribution to improving traffic flow.

“We have already received the compensation. I support this so that traffic flows smoothly,” he said when encountered in the Padalarang area on Monday (13 March 2026).

In reality, if given the choice, Iyan would prefer to continue operating as his earnings could exceed the compensation provided. However, he will comply with the government policy in the interest of smooth traffic flow in the West Bandung region specifically.

“Although if I kept working, I could make more than 200,000 rupiah. But it’s fine, thank goodness we have been given compensation,” said Iyan.

Similar sentiments were expressed by Mahmudin, 62, another delman driver in Padalarang. He stated his support for Dedi Mulyadi’s policy offering compensation during the Lebaran closure. In this way, he can rest for a period while still receiving income.

“I agree as long as it follows the compensation rules. Then the money will go towards daily expenses. The horses also need to eat,” he said.
