Dell Indonesia Chief Puzzled by Rp 112 Billion Enrichment Claim in Chromebook Case: Real Loss

Alexander Vidi Firdaus, as Director of PT Dell Indonesia (Dell), testified that he did not know about the Rp 112 billion enrichment calculation in the Chromebook and Chrome Device Management (CDM) procurement. He said he had even suffered losses. He said this when summoned by prosecutors as a witness at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Thursday, 5 March 2026. The defendant is former Mendikbudristek Nadiem Anwar Makarim. ‘So if I multiply everything mathematically, the project’s margins are negative, sir,’ said Alex. In the indictment, PT Dell is said to have enriched by Rp 112,684,732,796.22 (Rp 112 billion) as one of the vendors implementing the Chromebook procurement. But Alex said he did not know the calculation. ‘But in the indictment you are enriched Rp 112 billion,’ said the lawyer for Nadiem. ‘Well, I don’t know the calculation from where it came, because at BPKP all the documents had already been taken. Before the AGO and BPKP summoned, their team had come to the office to collect all documents,’ replied Alex. Alex said he had also been examined by the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP). He said he had explained the calculations in the procurement. Alex said the project involved losses for the company in Chromebook procurement. He said he did not know about the Rp 112 billion enrichment. ‘Real figure is negative, isn’t it?’ asked Nadiem’s lawyer. ‘Because in reality what we ordered from the factory we have to pay for, and the money we receive from the distributor is in line with the PO documents,’ replied Alex. ‘You can’t ask for more?’ asked the lawyer. ‘We can’t ask for more; it’s according to the PO. So if you ask for the real figure, yes, we are indeed losing,’ replied Alex. ‘That’s why I clarify, because in the indictment you are enriched Rp 112 billion; enrich means there is an increase in wealth,’ said Nadiem’s lawyer. ‘Correct, but I don’t know how that figure came out; there should be data that supports it,’ said Alex. In the case, Nadiem is charged with corruption related to Chromebook procurement during his tenure as Mendikbudristek. The project is said to have caused state losses of Rp 2.1 trillion. Besides Nadiem, Sri Wahyuningsih, former Director of the Elementary School Directorate at the Directorate General of Early Childhood, Education, and Basic Education (2020-2021); Mulyatsyah, former Director of SMP Kemendikbudristek (2020); and Ibrahim Arief (Ibam), former Kemendikbudristek consultant under Nadiem, are also named as defendants in the case.
