Delinquent Students and Student Council Members in Banten to Undergo Military Barracks Training
The Banten Provincial Government’s Education and Culture Office (Dindikbud) has announced plans to send delinquent students and Student Council members to be trained in military barracks. The training is scheduled to take place in October 2026.
“The plan is for this October, God willing. We will hold it at three locations designated for coaching,” said the Head of Banten Dindikbud, Jamaluddin, on Wednesday (30/09/2026).
Jamaluddin stated that the three training locations are the 320 Badak Putih Infantry Battalion in Pandeglang, the 9th Cavalry Battalion in South Tangerang, and the Kopassus Group 1 in Serang.
Banten Dindikbud aims to strengthen the discipline, responsibility, and independence of the students. After two days of coaching, students are expected to transform their behaviour to become more disciplined and refrain from repeating past mistakes.
“The coaching is intended to foster a sense of responsibility and independence; these are important. They will be taught, but not subjected to the same intense drilling as the TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces),” he said.
However, Jamaluddin noted that the students sent for training are not solely those with disciplinary issues, but also Student Council members who are intended to serve as role models.
“We are looking at children whose attendance is not yet optimal. Secondly, the Student Council is also included so that they can, at the very least, provide an example,” he said.
“It is not just for those in need of discipline; we are also training future leaders, including the Student Council members,” he added.
For the delinquent students, schools will also participate in supervising the students throughout the coaching process.
“I have requested the TNI to assist us in ensuring that these children can change in the future,” he concluded.
