Deli Serdang Regency Ensures Intensive Care for Landslide Victims
Deli Serdang (ANTARA) - The Deli Serdang Regency Government in North Sumatra has ensured that victims of the landslide in Sembahe Village, Sibolangit Subdistrict, receive intensive care from medical personnel.
This was stated by Deli Serdang Regent Asri Ludin Tambunan during a visit to landslide victim Sehat br Tarigan at Pancur Batu Hospital on Wednesday.
Sehat br Tarigan sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment accompanied by family.
“Insya Allah, we will assist you all, please be patient,” said the regent.
Accompanied by regional leadership coordination forum members, at the disaster site the regent also ensured the acceleration of emergency handling and full support for the affected community.
Based on preliminary data, the hydrometeorological disaster that occurred on Tuesday night (7/4) caused a landslide in Sembahe Village, Sibolangit Subdistrict, specifically behind RM Dina Mala. Nine houses were affected, five people died, and one victim is still undergoing treatment.
An emergency post, health services, communal kitchen, and temporary shelter in the form of tents have been set up near the disaster location.
“Although most affected families are currently evacuating to relatives’ homes, the government ensures that all their basic needs are still met here,” he said.
Currently, at the landslide site, police lines have been installed for security to prevent residents from approaching.
In addition to emergency handling, the regent also emphasised mitigation steps at several other landslide points that were inspected together with a joint team. There are about five small landslide points recorded in Sibolangit Subdistrict, some of which are near roadways including in Bingkawan Village and pose a potential danger to road users.
“Clearing of landslide material at vulnerable points has been carried out. Later, an assessment will also be conducted; after the soil condition is declared safe, we will carry out cliff widening and construction of retaining walls in the future,” he said.
The regent also urged the entire community to increase vigilance, especially in hilly areas and landslide-prone regions, and to immediately report potential disasters in their respective environments to prevent greater impacts.
