Delhaize boosts RI presence
BRUSSELS (Bloomberg): Delhaize Le Lion, Belgium's largest
retailer, wants at least 50, and preferably 100, supermarkets in
Indonesia by 2002, a spokesman told Belgian daily De Standaard
Tuesday.
Delhaize already operates 13 Superindo shops that are owned by
Indonesia's Salim conglomerate.
In Thailand, where Delhaize has a 45 percent stake in Thai,
owner of the Food Lion chains that will total seven at the end of
this year, the retailer wants at least 50 supermarkets by 2002,
De Standaard said.
Singapore's Straits Times newspaper reported Saturday that
QAF Ltd., Salim's food and grocery arm, is in talks to sell 51
percent of its Shop N Save supermarket chain for about S$25
million (US$15.25 million) to Delhaize.
