BRUSSELS (Bloomberg): Delhaize Le Lion, Belgium's largest retailer, wants at least 50, and preferably 100, supermarkets in Indonesia by 2002, a spokesman told Belgian daily De Standaard Tuesday.
Delhaize already operates 13 Superindo shops that are owned by Indonesia's Salim conglomerate.
In Thailand, where Delhaize has a 45 percent stake in Thai, owner of the Food Lion chains that will total seven at the end of this year, the retailer wants at least 50 supermarkets by 2002, De Standaard said.
Singapore's Straits Times newspaper reported Saturday that QAF Ltd., Salim's food and grocery arm, is in talks to sell 51 percent of its Shop N Save supermarket chain for about S$25 million (US$15.25 million) to Delhaize.
