Delete These 15 Apps Immediately: They Are Gateways for M-Banking Theft

A report from cybersecurity firm McAfee has revealed a list of 15 dangerous Android applications that were used by cybercriminals to steal personal data and drain victims’ mobile banking accounts. The malicious apps, which were available on the Google Play Store, have been downloaded approximately 8 million times globally, with an estimated 2 million of those downloads coming from Indonesia. Although the apps have since been removed from the official store, users who previously installed them remain at risk and are strongly advised to uninstall them immediately.

McAfee identified that the majority of these problematic applications were disguised as online loan platforms, a modus operandi known as ‘Spy Loan’. The perpetrators designed the apps with names, logos, and user interfaces mimicking legitimate financial services to deceive potential victims. They also lured users through advertisements on social media, promising low interest rates and easy application processes. Once installed, the apps aggressively harvested sensitive personal data, which was then used to terrorise victims and extort payments under the guise of debt collection.

The 15 malicious applications identified are: Préstamo Seguro-Rápido, Seguro, Préstamo Rápido-Credit Easy, Get Baht Easily - Quick Loan, RupiahKilat-Dana cair, Borrow Happily - Loan, Happy Money, KreditKu - Uang Online, Dana Kilat - Pinjaman Kecil, Cash Loan-Vay tiền, RapidFinance, PrêtPourVous, Huayna Money - Préstamo Rápido, IPréstamos: Rápido Crédito, ConseguirSol-Dinero Rápido, and ÉcoPrêt Prêt En Ligne. Users who have installed any of these applications are strongly urged to delete them immediately to prevent potential data theft and financial loss.
