Delegate, not representative

I read your article titled U.S. not for Papua's independence: Juwono on Aug. 3. It was mentioned in the story that Congressman Eni FH Faleomavega is from the Republican Party. Delegate Eni FH Faleomavega is from the Democratic Party and he is only a delegate from Samoa Island. Delegates are rather different from representatives. Delegates have no voting rights, while representatives do.

Delegate Eni FH Faleomavega is sensitive to any issues concerning the Pacific islands, including Papua, given the fact that he is a delegate from Samoa island. Unfortunately, the Indonesian Embassy in Washington DC, as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, have long ignored him. He has served eight terms in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Information regarding members of Congress can be found in Congress Quarterly Politics in America 2004 the 108th Congress (Washington DC, 2004).

C. EFFENDI Washington DC
