Jakarta — Dave Laksono, Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, has assessed that the postponement of the deployment of Board of Peace (BoP) peacekeeping forces to Gaza, Palestine, does not weaken Indonesia’s commitment.

Dave assessed that the government’s decision needs to be placed within a broader framework. “This postponement does not signify a weakening of commitment, but rather part of a precautionary strategy to ensure that Indonesia’s contribution is truly effective, well-targeted, and does not create additional risks for the forces or regional stability,” Dave stated when confirmed on Wednesday (18 March 2026).

According to Dave, within the framework of the constitution and national mandate, Indonesia continues to affirm full solidarity with the humanitarian struggle. Dave continued, the government will continue to coordinate with the United Nations and international partners to create stability in Gaza. “So when conditions permit, the presence of Indonesian peacekeeping forces can deliver tangible impact towards creating security and stability in Gaza,” he added.

Therefore, Dave assessed that this decision should be understood as a realistic diplomatic step, not a reduction in commitment. “Commission I of the House of Representatives together with the Government remain steadfast in supporting the peace mission, in a measured and responsible manner,” Dave asserted.

Previously, it was reported that Indonesia planned to deploy 8,000 military personnel for a peace mission to Gaza. “The plan to deploy peacekeeping forces to Gaza is currently postponed,” stated a statement from the Government Communications Bureau (Bakom) of the Republic of Indonesia on Monday (16 March 2026).

The decision to postpone the deployment of forces for the National Stabilisation Force or ISF was made by Prabowo after Indonesia suspended discussions on BoP given the escalation of war between Iran, the United States, and Israel expanding in the Middle East region. “All discussions related to BoP are currently suspended (on hold) due to increased escalation of conflict in the Middle East,” stated Bakom RI.

According to Prabowo, this conflict has created uncertainty and upheaval for all countries in the world. Meanwhile, Prabowo urged all conflicting parties to be willing to engage in dialogue to end the war. “My suggestion is always to seek peaceful options,” Prabowo stated in a statement from Bakom RI.
