Dekranas Expands Market for Indonesian Crafts Through Promotion and Partnerships
The National Craft Council (Dekranas) is continually expanding the market for Indonesian craft products through various promotional, mentorship, and partnership programmes to enhance the competitiveness of artisans while strengthening the position of national craft products in the global market.
Dekranas First Deputy Chairperson Loemongga Kartasasmita, whilst opening the Swarna Wastra Nusantara Exhibition in Jakarta on Tuesday, stated that Dekranas holds a strategic role in the development of the national craft and textile industry. In addition to striving to improve the capacity and welfare of artisans, the organisation also bears the responsibility for preserving the artistic and cultural values embedded in each craftwork as part of the nation’s identity.
Dekranas continues to provide spaces for artisans and business actors to grow, innovate, and expand market access through various mentorship, promotion, and partnership programmes. This effort is becoming increasingly important amidst the dynamics of the creative industry’s development and rising global competition,” Loemongga said.
According to her, the exhibition is a tangible manifestation of the shared commitment to preserve, develop, and introduce the richness of Indonesian textiles and craft products to the wider community, whilst simultaneously strengthening their contribution to the national economy. She further noted that Indonesia possesses a highly diverse wealth of traditional textiles, ranging from woven fabrics, batik, and songket to various other traditional textiles passed down through generations. Beyond their high aesthetic value, these products also represent the history, identity, and local wisdom of Indonesian communities.
