Dekranas 46th Anniversary Poised to Propel Indonesian Artisans onto the Global Stage
The National Crafts Council (Dekranas) has confirmed that preparations for the 46th anniversary of Dekranas, which will be held in Makassar, South Sulawesi, from 9–12 July 2026, are being finalised. The celebration, themed “Sustainable Craft Creation, Global Artisans,” serves as an effort to strengthen cultural preservation and enhance the competitiveness of Indonesian artisans in the global market.
“This commemoration is an important momentum that not only celebrates the nation’s cultural heritage but also strengthens the role of small and medium enterprises across all corners of Indonesia,” said Indri Angga Prabowo, Head of Promotion and Public Relations at Dekranas, during a press conference at the Ministry of Communication and Digital office in Jakarta on Thursday (2/7/2026).
Indri stated that the 46th anniversary series will include various activities involving the public, creative communities, business actors, and the media. One of the supporting agendas prepared is the Tunas Family Craft Creation Workshop, themed “Weaving Warmth in the Digital Era,” on 9 July 2026, which combines education on child protection in digital spaces with practical craft-making sessions for parents and children.
“This activity is expected not only to serve as a means of education regarding digital literacy and child protection but also to become a momentum to strengthen the role of the family in shaping a generation that is creative, characterised, and proud of the nation’s culture,” she said.
In addition to offline activities, Indri noted that Dekranas is inviting the public to promote regional crafts through social media by sharing stories about the uniqueness of craft products from various regions of Indonesia using prepared campaign hashtags. She also hopes for media support to expand the promotion of artisans’ works to an international level, replicating the success of previous anniversary celebrations in Balikpapan.
“To our media colleagues, we hope for active participation in spreading positive information regarding the implementation of the 46th Dekranas anniversary to all corners of the archipelago, and even to the international arena, as a form of promotion for the nation’s superior works,” said Indri.
As an institution born from the spirit of preserving national culture, Dekranas continues to encourage craft innovation and strengthen the role of local artisans in building the national economy. Under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto, Indri continued, the government is committed to making the creative economy, including the craft sector, the backbone of people’s economic growth.
“The state is present to ensure that Indonesian artisans do not just survive, but are able to compete in the global market. Indonesia possesses extraordinary cultural wealth that serves as a mirror of the nation’s identity,” said Indri.
