Andi Ghalib is acquitted from the allegation of having been
bribed because his case has been orchestrated in such a way for
this purpose. It still needs to be examined, however, whether he
can be acquitted from the allegation of corruption. If it is true
that the bank account is owned by the All Indonesia Wrestling
Association (PGSI) and that people have donated money to PGSI,
Andi Ghalib can be accused of having spent organizational funds
for his private purposes, namely shopping and paying credit
cards. Is this not corruption?
A friend from a state bank once said that a wife of a
government official transferred some US$15 million abroad while
the government official himself was the cause of much attention
in the mass media at the time. According to him, many money
transfers were conducted when Pak Harto stepped down and also
when Andi Ghalib's account was made a public issue. If this
friend is willing to act as a witness, will he not be accused of
having contravened the banking secrecy law? This friend has also
said that all money transfers abroad are executed and recorded at
Bank Indonesia, even if they are made at private or state banks.
This means that in order to investigate the financial dealings of
the Cendana family, the government only need to check the records
of Bank Indonesia (BI), rather than sending a team to Switzerland
and Austria.
If BI in this case states that it is impossible for it to give
any explanation, it will also mean that central banks in other
countries will do the same. So, why should a team go to
Switzerland and Austria? Clearly, the comedy played out by
government officials is so funny that professional comedians now
have serious rivals.
