Defiant Drum Procession During Takbiran, Pickup Convoy Turned Back in Cianjur
Several trucks and pickups in Cianjur were turned back by police after defiantly carrying groups for a drum procession. The police had already banned drum processions to welcome the Lebaran moment.
The incident occurred on Friday (20/3/2026) around 10:30 PM WIB. The drum procession group was seen around Jalan Raya Bandung, Sukaluyu Subdistrict. Another group was seen around Jalan Raya Sukabumi, Pasirhayam, Cilaku Subdistrict at 11:00 PM WIB.
Officers on guard and patrol immediately stopped the groups and directed them to turn around and return home.
“It is true that at several points we turned back the drum procession groups. Because previously a ban and appeal had been issued not to carry out drum procession activities,” said Cianjur Police Chief AKBP A Alexander Yurikho.
According to Alex, the drum procession groups used vehicles not intended for carrying people, namely open-bed vehicles.
“Of course, with such vehicles, there are concerns about the safety of the people in the beds,” he said.
In addition, he continued, such activities could also trigger traffic congestion along the routes used by holidaymakers.
“The ban and action to turn back the drum procession groups is to keep traffic flowing smoothly, and so that holidaymakers can reach their destinations quickly,” he said.
He urged the public to welcome Idul Fitri by carrying out takbiran at the mosques in their neighbourhoods.
“Please welcome Eid al-Fitr with more positive activities, takbiran and beating drums at the nearest mosque from your respective homes,” he concluded.
