Defiant developers to be blacklisted
Defiant developers to be blacklisted
JAKARTA (JP): Bekasi Regent Moch. Djamhari has threatened to
blacklist developers who sub-contract city-owned projects to
other contractors.
Djamhari was quoted by the regency spokesman Yaya as saying in
Bekasi that transferring the projects to other developers causes
difficulties in checking on construction.
This practice has also led to the finishing touches of the
buildings being of poor quality.
Last month several elementary school buildings owned by the
regency collapsed because their construction was not in line with
standard requirements. Some of them were built with second-hand
materials.
Djamhari has ordered the developers who are responsible for
the construction of the buildings to rebuild the damaged
facilities.
Head of the Bekasi chapter of the Association of Indonesian
Contractors, Zainal Arifin, hails the regent's remark, saying
that he will also blacklist any members of his association who
neglect the warning.
Arifin said that his office will form a committee to monitor
the performance of the association's members. (25)
