DEFENSE PLEA: The former minister of trade and industry and
former chief of the State Logistics Agency (Bulog), Rahardi
Ramelan, gives his defense statement during his graft trial in
the South Jakarta District Court. Rahardi maintained on Tuesday
that he had disbursed Rp 40 billion (US$4.4 million) of Bulog
funds to then state secretary Akbar Tanjung, now speaker of the
House of Representatives, and Rp 10 billion to then military
chief Wiranto with the consent of then president B.J. Habibie.
