Defending Ride-Hailing Drivers, Prabowo Reduces Platform Fees from 20 to 8 Percent

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto has reduced the commission fee for online ride-hailing (ojol) drivers from 20 percent to 8 percent. This provision is regulated through Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 27 of 2026 on the Protection of Online Transportation Workers. Prabowo issued this regulation as one of the gifts for workers on International Labour Day 2026. “Earlier, the income distribution was 80 percent for drivers; now it is a minimum of 92 percent for drivers,” said Prabowo at Monas, Jakarta, on Friday (1/5/2026). Now, through Presidential Regulation No. 27 of 2026, the government stipulates that ojol drivers receive 92 percent of the fare paid by passengers. In addition, Prabowo has ordered that ojol drivers must receive a safety net such as work accident insurance. “They must be provided with work accident insurance; BPJS Health and health insurance will be provided,” stated Prabowo. “We are expanding job opportunities for disabled workers,” added Prabowo.
