Defendant in student's death at Nipah Beach sentenced to six years

A panel of judges at the Mataram District Court has imposed a six-year prison sentence on Radiet Adiansyah, the defendant in the case concerning the death of student Ni Made Vaniradya Puspa Nitra at Nipah Beach, North Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara. Presiding Judge Mukhlassuddin, delivering the verdict on Wednesday, stated that the defendant had been proven guilty of committing assault resulting in death, in accordance with the public prosecutor’s second alternative charge. “Sentencing the defendant Radiet Adiansyah to imprisonment for six years,” Mukhlassuddin said while reading the ruling. The decision differed from the public prosecutor’s sentencing demand, which had sought a 13-year prison term, arguing that the defendant had been proven to have committed murder. In its demand, the prosecution requested the judge declare the defendant proven to have violated Article 458 paragraph (1) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, as per the first primary charge. The case began with the discovery of Ni Made Vaniradya Puspa Nitra deceased on the coast of Nipah Beach, North Lombok Regency, on Tuesday, 26 August 2025. The victim was found alongside the defendant, who was still alive at the time but had sustained injuries across his body. While processing the crime scene, police discovered several belongings of both the victim and the defendant, including the victim’s motorbike, which the pair had used to travel to the location. The defendant was subsequently rushed to the Nipah Community Health Centre for medical treatment, whilst the victim’s body was evacuated to Bhayangkara Hospital in Mataram for further examination.
