The Indonesian Defence Ministry will recruit 30,000 Indonesian development-driving graduates (SPPI) to manage the Koperasi Desa Merah Putih (Red-and-White Village Cooperatives). These thousands of graduates will serve as managers for 80,000 cooperatives targeted to begin operating in August 2026.

“The government is targeting the recruitment and training of approximately 30,000 managers through support from the Defence Ministry, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and the National Police (Polri),” said Deputy Defence Minister Donny Ermawan Taufanto during an acceleration meeting for the Village Cooperative programme, according to an official Defence Ministry statement on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, Head of the Information and Public Relations Bureau of the Defence Ministry Secretariat, explained that SPPI recruitment for the Village Cooperative programme is open to the public. All bachelor’s and master’s degree holders from any discipline can apply to become leaders in the cooperatives. “Anyone can participate as long as they have a bachelor’s degree as their highest qualification,” said Rico when contacted on Friday, 13 March 2026.

According to him, prospective SPPI candidates who register will undergo a selection and training process conducted by the Defence Ministry. Those who are successful will occupy manager positions in the Red-and-White Village Cooperatives located in various regions.

Rico stated that SPPI recruitment to fill positions in the Red-and-White Village Cooperatives is scheduled to begin in June 2026. “Currently, we are still in the coordination stage across ministries and agencies, as well as in the preparation phase,” he said.
