The Ministry of Defence (Kemhan) and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) are preparing measures to save fuel consumption amid global geopolitical dynamics. These steps not only include adjusting workdays from five to four days per week.

Head of the Defence Information Bureau at the Ministry of Defence, Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, stated that the use of main weapon system equipment (alusista) will be regulated based on priority indices and operational needs. “Along with restrictions on the use of official vehicles and employee shuttle transport, while still considering the effectiveness of task implementation,” he said in a press release published on Kemhan’s official website on Monday, 23 March 2026.

He stated that this fuel-saving policy is implemented adaptively, measurably, and gradually according to the needs of each work unit in the Ministry of Defence and TNI. Fuel efficiency, Rico said, is also focused on support aspects, while strategic operations and defence readiness are maintained optimally.

He said this fuel consumption efficiency is carried out as an anticipatory step and discipline in managing strategic resources. Moreover, he noted that the current global geopolitical situation has the potential to affect energy stability. “(Fuel efficiency) is not due to an emergency situation,” he said. According to him, the national energy reserves are currently still in a safe condition.

This fuel-saving policy is one of the directives from President Prabowo Subianto. This is due to the war between the United States-Israel against Iran, which has impacted oil prices and crude oil supplies.

Prabowo stated that Indonesia must take proactive steps to address the impact of the war between the United States and Israel against Iran. “In the sense that we must save fuel consumption,” Prabowo said during a cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta on Friday, 13 March 2026.
